Amir, from a wealthy family in 1970s Afghanistan, is haunted by guilt over his failure to protect his childhood friend and servant, Hassan, who was assaulted whilst retrieving Amir’s kite. The story follows their bond and its tragic rupture, set against the backdrop of Afghanistan's tumultuous history and the rise of the Taliban.
